Directions for Completing the timeline:
1. Please click on the "Tiki Toki" button below which will link to the website to get started. The website will open in a new window so you can switch back and forth between tabs for the web-based lesson and the Tiki Toki website.
2. First, you will need to sign-up for a free account (if you don't already have one). Find the hyperlink that says "Sign up here" on the lower left hand side of the Tiki Toki homepage and fill out the information. You do not need a Class Code.
3. Once you have created an account and are logged in, you are ready to start creating your timeline. Please title your timeline "Prenatal Development- DHY 104" when prompted.
4. For this activity you are going to make a timeline of your own prenatal development. Therefore, set the end date of your timeline as the date of your birth (your real birthday).
5. Next, please calculate the start date for the timeline by counting back 9 months from your date of birth. This will be the date of fertilization (or close to it). For this assignment we are going to pretend that each person was carried "full term" (no premature births or early arrivers.)
6. In the introduction section please simply put "The Beginning of the Life of Your Name." (Entering your own first and last name).
7. You may add images to your timeline if you want, but this is not a requirement.
8. You may choose whatever background color and highlight color you wish.
9. When you are done entering the above information click "Create New Timeline."
10. To begin entering information onto your timeline you will move the timeline to the date that you want to record an event. That date will show up in the center of the screen.
11. Once you have the desired date in the middle of the screen, click "Create a new story" to enter the first event.
12. Then you will need to "Edit the story." Create a title and intro for the event you are adding to the timeline. For example, your first event will be titled "Fertilization." The intro would explain what took place.
13. The events that need to be present on your timeline are as follows:
Fertilization, Implantation, Start of the Embryonic Period, Trilaminar Disc, Embryonic Folding, Start of the Fetal Period, Gender Reveal (Indicate "It's a boy, or it's a girl), and Birth.
Note: Each of these will be the title for a new story on the timelime. You will need to write a brief description of what happened at each event in your own words in the introduction section for that story.
14. When you are done creating your timeline email me the link to your timeline at my KVCC email address. Also, please add the link to your timeline to the discussion forum on this page (See Below). (Simply cut and paste the URL from the top of your completed timeline.) All you need to do is Reply to the initial post that i made.
